Labor Day

We had a great Labor Day Weekend full of fun and adventure! It all started Sunday (I know, kind of late, but it was a long weekend so we had the extra time...). We invited the Balthrops over for dinner before we headed to members night at the zoo. Dinner was great, even Louisa and John John ate chicken curry, just like their mamas and daddys! Then, we all chowed down on mini country cones before we headed to the zoo. Everyone was excited to go. Not only is the zoo our favorite place, but we've never been there at night! We headed straight for the carousel when we got there and the children had a great ride with their fathers. Right from the carousel to the boat ride, then a little walk around the zoo to see what else was going on. Alex found a frog jumping around and caught it for the little ones to see. Louisa loved it and even let Alex put it in her hand. Of course, as soon as he let go, the frog hopped out of her hand scaring the daylights out of her! It scared her, but she laughed it off. Of course, that didn't mean she forgave the frog for scaring her and she would not hold it again, although the "froggie hop" is a daily topic of conversation now. We saw the pelicans and listened to music, did some people watching, and enjoyed the evening. Thanks, Balthrops! (Sorry for the lack of pictures. I forgot my camera, cardinal sin, I know...)
We woke up on Monday with no plans which Alex rectified quickly by hopping on the computer and finding a state park for us to visit. We went to Village Creek State Park, which is in Arkansas and about an hour away from Memphis. It was awesome! We rented a little boat with an electric motor and all of us were on the boat for an hour or two. Louisa LOVED it, she's a little water baby for sure!

Louisa and Dada, then Dada and Chisolm. Even with a limited amount of space on the boat, Louisa was able to stay in action!

Louisa and Mama. Looking at what, I'm not sure...

Hey Dada, Check that out!

Even QP had fun on the boat!

After our fun time on the lake, we walked around a bit, headed to the playground, and went to scope out a spot to eat our supper. Here is a picture of Alex getting the grill ready and Louisa entertaining herself (QP should get some credit here...) while supper is getting ready:

Getting those flames going

Come on, QP!

Such a laid back, easy little guy!

We really enjoyed our adventure and first trip to Arkansas! Our camer batteries ran out before the end of the day, but luckily, our phones came to the rescue. A kind fellow picnic-er took this family photo for us. It isn't great quality, but a fun reminder of a great day!

The Colemans in Arkansas!

FYI: If you live in Memphis, this park really was awesome! They also have paddle boats (we'll wait until Louisa can help make that one move). We highly recommend Village Creek State Park for a great day trip!
