D-Day

Well, here we are on the last day of June. Tomorrow Alex will disappear into the abyss that is the Med. He has to be at work at 4:30am and is on call as well. This means that he will go to work on Tuesday morning and he will not leave the hospital until after a full day of work on Wednesday. However, we are not there yet, so let's focus on what a great day we had today...

Alex had a great day in the workshop. He is almost finished with the half-rounds for our dining room table, he has finished the inlay on all of the legs and only has the inlay on one apron left before he can scrape and finish them. He will probably be ready to start scraping them by the weekend--very exciting! Here is a picture of one of the legs as Alex is putting the cuff inlay at the bottom. You can see the bell flower inlay a bit higher up the leg. The table has a beautiful vine and leaf inlay around the apron

Louisa and I started the day by going from business to business asking for donations for the Forrest Spence 5k in September. We were out driving around for a few hours and while we did not get anything firm today, we got some great leads and found people who were definitely interested in supporting the Forrest Spence Fund.

Louisa and I got home in time for lunch, Louisa is eating all sorts of new things. Today she had turkey and cheese for lunch. She is very independent and likes to pick which bib she will wear for her meals and definitely wants to feed herself. So, I let her choose between 2 bibs and just put her food on her highchair tray and she digs right in. She's a big fan of chicken, cheese, peas and carrots, and yogurt.

We had a wonderful surprise this afternoon as Sara came for a visit. She brought Salvador and Jason with her and Louisa couldn't have been more excited! She loves playing with the boys and it was fun to visit with Sara. Louisa decided to show off for Sara and the boys before they left--she stood all by herself for about 30 seconds! I think she surprised herself more than she surprised us, it was really cute.

Alex had to go to the Med to find out what he would be doing tomorrow and he had to go to conference tonight. I thought I would be all on my own for dinner because of that, but he brought me a calzone back. What a nice surprise, we had a good time while I ate and we watched some Star Wars together.
