The Great Cloth Diaper Change

Most of you know that we have taken the plunge into the world of cloth diapering (and I LOVE it!).  Well, last weekend we attended the Great Cloth Diaper Change and are now proud Guiness Book of World Record record holders!  We are part of a world wide diaper change.  Seriously.  People from all over the world got together in groups of 25+ (there were smaller groups, but Guiness would only count groups of 25+.  Our group in Memphis had more than 65!) and changed a child's diaper all at the same time.  I was excited to participate, but there must be some hard core people out there--places on the other side of the world were up changing diapers in a public place at 3am!  We had a great time and I changed Chisolm's diaper at 11am while a friend changed Duke's diaper (only one adult per child--it was very official).  We went with Lauren and her daughter Helen Louise (who is only 2 days older than Duke--we visited each other in the hospital after the babes were born!).  There were swag bags and a raffle (where Lauren raked it in and gave Louisa the MOST precious kid-sized sling for her babies.  Louisa LOVES it and you can see it in the pictures below).  It was a lot of fun!

I'm going to use this as a quick chance to tell you how much I like cloth diapering my children.  Seriously--I have 3 children 3 and under, there is not a lot of time for extra chores in my day.  And admittedly, the fear of not being able to keep up with diaper laundry is what kept me from switching over to cloth before I did (I've been using cloth since Chisolm was about 10 mo old).  But modern cloth diapers are just as easy as disposables (there are lots of different kinds, but one of the diapers we use is called in all in one (AIO) and has velcro--the only difference between it and a disposable is that you can use it again!).  I throw a load in before bed every other night and they are on the line (or in the dryer on cold/rainy days) the next morning.  Honestly, I feel less frantic about running out of diapers now that I just have to run upstairs to the washing machine instead of having to load 3 kids into the car and head to the store.  I also love that the chemicals in disposables (the list is kind of scary) aren't touching my children's bums any longer (although we do use disposables on occasion), and a wonderful side note--dirty diapers don't smell quite as potent in cloth as they do in disposables (no chemicals=less stink!).  The best part (and the actual "last straw" that helped me jump in) is that Chisolm no longer has diaper rashes.  He had an almost constant red bum until I switched.

Ok, off my soap box for now.  Back to the Great Cloth Diaper Change--we had fun, we participated in a world record, and here are some pictures:
